As we enter a new year, it can be easy to give in to shame about where we are at in our lives, and what we had hoped to accomplish this year but didn’t manage to. Maybe you didn’t stick to your strict healthy eating plan. Or you fell off your rigorous daily fitness routine. Maybe you found yourself so stressed during the holiday season that you actually backslid a bit. Even if all of these are true, it is important to to be kind to yourself. Remember, we are in the holiday season, and naturally you may want to eat more treats and skip some work outs. You may even do things like sleep more or relax as the days get shorter and nights get colder. That’s perfectly okay!

New Year, New You

Try to not catastrophize about things that may seem like failures no. Instead, try looking at the year as a whole. Maybe in the last few months you’ve eaten a lot of holiday sweets, but if you think back you’ll remember that for a lot of the year, you kept to a lower sugar diet.

Try to reflect on goals you made at the beginning of the year, and note how to be more realistic in order to make more progress this year. If you didn’t stick to a rigorous daily exercise plan, maybe it’s the wrong plan! Moving forward, you could try and set a goal to work out 3 times a week, or change your workout to something you’re more interested in.

It’s important to try and live a healthy and happy lifestyle, but in order to do that you need to prioritize balance. For many of us, especially those who are new to the world of organic living, the prospect of changing everything in our lives can be so enticing. But it can also be extremely stressful. Part of healthy living is stress management, and feeling fulfilled in your daily life. Here are some tips we have to make your New Year a healthy and happy one.

Focus on little changes

It can be easy to fall into the “New Year, New You” mentality so deeply that you think, come January 1st, your entire life, personality, and habits will change. As most will know, this is wildly unrealistic. But that’s okay! Truthfully, you want to better yourself and live a more healthy and happy life, not completely change yourself into stranger. We suggest really reflecting on yourself and your lifestyle, and focus on little things you can change. Over the course of the year, little changes make a BIG difference. Maybe instead of committing to an intense work outs at 4am everyday, commit to going on a bike ride three times a week with a friend, or sign up for gym and set a goal to go 2-4 times a week. Instead of trying to get up early and make fresh juice every morning, just try and swing by Roots a few times a week for a fresh juice. You can even get 64 oz. glass jug and have fresh juice ready to drink at home!

Remember, every body is different

If you pay attention as you walk around Organic Roots, you’ll notice high quality products for every diet out there. If you’re keto, we’ve got you covered. Vegan? You bet. Gluten free? Of course! The point is that we understand that every body is different. It’s important to listen to your body and your doctor to learn what diet you should follow. Maybe you’re fine ingesting gluten, but you are always sure to eat organic whole grain bread and pasta. Or maybe gluten is your enemy, so our wide range of gluten free products are a staple in your household. Maybe you’re keto, so organic and all natural meats and cheeses are the most important thing to you. Or maybe you’re vegan, and plant based snacks are your go-to. What is important is that you are doing what is right for YOU, and remember that we are always here for you with the highest quality of products possible.

Stress management should be a priority

As we said earlier, part of healthy living is stress management. In our busy modern world, it can be difficult to prioritize your rest and relaxation. Now more than ever, we live in a stressful society where it can be easy to let anxiety take over. To prevent this, really try and set aside time for yourself to relax. Maybe you want to try to do a daily mediation – even 10 minutes is said to help your daily stress! Maybe take up yoga, or going on nightly walks after dinner in nature. A few times throughout your day, stop and be still for a moment and take a few slow breaths. And most importantly, be sure to get QUALITY sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, our Vitamin department has an array of benefits supplemental sleep aids, as well as gentler things such as aromatherapy for relaxation, or magnesium flakes to help rest your muscles in the bath.

We hope you found this helpful and will try and be kinder to yourself when reflecting on the past year, and how you want to move forward towards a happy and healthy new year. It’s been a rough few years for everyone, and we hope you are approaching the new year with compassion, for yourself and others. For everyone at Organic Roots, Happy New Year.
